Before Laminate Installation
To get ready for your new laminate installation, start by removing all furniture, electronics, and hanging wall items from your rooms and closets receiving new flooring. Many laminate products offer floating installation, which saves time and money, and can be installed over existing flooring! This installation method means that the current floors will not need to be removed. Once your subfloor has been professionally assessed for the appropriate installation method, and any necessary repairs are made, you are ready for new laminate!
Laminate Installation Process
On the day of your new laminate installation, an adult will need to be home to answer questions for your installation crew. Designate an area in the home for the installers to keep dangerous tools, saws, laminate pieces before they are installed, and saw planks to size as needed. Keep all children and pets away from the installer’s work area and the rooms receiving new laminate.
Enjoy Your New Laminate
After you have waited the specified amount of time when installation is complete, it’s time to enjoy your new laminate! Many floating laminate floors are ready for light foot traffic immediately. If a floating floor has raised the flooring height, the bottom of your doors may need to be shaved down to restore full range of motion.
When returning furniture to the rooms, always move pieces by lifting or using appropriate moving equipment with rollers. Never drag furniture across the laminate surface and use felt protectors under heavy pieces to reduce impact. Consider placing area rugs on your laminate floors with area rug pads underneath to add more protection.
